EnjoyingArt carries the dream of its founder, Yong Chen, who envisioned creating a worldwide community where artists could come together to learn, share, and grow. Founded in 2016, EnjoyingArt was built on the belief that art connects people across cultures and generations—that through drawing and painting, we can better understand both ourselves and one another.
The community’s mission has two layers. The first is to bring together artists who share a generous love for art—those who find joy not only in creating but also in supporting and inspiring others. Through online classes, community clubs, and live Zoom painting sessions, members of EnjoyingArt encourage one another to keep learning, experimenting, and expressing themselves. This warm spirit of connection and collaboration is truly the heart of the community.
The second mission, made possible through the ongoing support of EnjoyingArt members, is to make art learning accessible to everyone. Yong shares free drawing and painting lessons on YouTube and other platforms, helping people around the world discover the beauty and joy of creating art. My name is Susan, and I live in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. I first discovered Yong Chen while browsing YouTube for art instruction. His videos were so easy to follow that I quickly became hooked. Before long, I joined his Patreon community, and I’ve been a Patron of Yong Chen for several years now.

My name is Vicki Littell. I’m an Australian living in Orlando, Florida, and I’ve been part of Yong Chen’s Patreon community since June 2017. I discovered Yong on YouTube and knew I wanted to work more closely with him to improve my art.
Watercolor has fascinated me since childhood, and after retiring two years ago, I devoted all my time and energy to developing my skills. Aside from Yong’s guidance, I am entirely self-taught, driven by my love of art and a strong desire to learn.
When I first started, I painted simple scenes around my home by the lake. My big challenge came with portraits—my first attempt, based on a photo of my son, was a learning experience. While it didn’t look much like him, I was proud of the progress and encouraged to keep improving.
I decided to fully explore Yong’s EnjoyingArt Learning Library and focused on the portrait classes. These lessons, along with support from the community, have been instrumental in helping me grow as an artist.

My name is Laurie Sequana Stolemaker. I'm a world traveler currently based in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. My husband and i retired in 2013 and we've been traveling and house sitting around the world. I started watercolor in 2016 in a weekly class in Mexico for about three months. I was searching for a way to be creative that was portable. I found Yong Chen on YouTube in 2017, and i joined his Patreon.
Here are some of the things i was doing on my own back then. These paintings that i did were my attempts to do flowers: this is a little girl that I took a photo of on the beach and her dog. And I really wanted to paint the pets that we were taking care of.
As I worked from the EnjoyingArt library and the live offerings with Yong Chen, I began to improve. And I improved a little bit on flowers, and i wasn't completely satisfied. This past year, I painted these and this one. So the last year or so I painted this that I had a vision about for a while this painting of figs. These are some of the things that I did in class with Yong, getting back to basics in the last few years I painted this dog, this little one.
A few years ago, I painted this woman in Australia when we were traveling, and these two little sisters in the park in Mexico. The process has been really fun.
The people that I have gotten to know through this community have been so helpful. I have learned from Yong so much, and I've also learned from my fellow classmates. We are encouraging and honest with one another, and it really helps to share, ask questions, and make suggestions within the group. I am pretty pleased with what I'm doing right now that I'm continuing to work with Yong to improve my eye and my ability to create the message or the story that i want to tell in a painting.
